About Peterhead

Peterhead is situated about 34 miles north of Aberdeen.  It is the largest town in Aberdeenshire with a population of around 20,000. 

It is a busy fishing port and also serves the North Sea Oil and Gas industries.  Luxury liners call in to the port during the holiday season and the town also boasts a bustling marina.

Locally, Peterhead golf course is a testing 18 hole course.  Tennis and Bowling clubs, a Rugby club, an athletics club, and a swimming club cater for all ages.  Peterhead Football club play at Balmoor stadium having been promoted to the second division of the Scottish League. 

Peterhead prison lies to the south of the town and is a significant employer.

Schooling is well served with 6 Primary schools and a Special Needs school.  Peterhead Academy serves the requirements of those of Secondary school age.  Adjoining the Academy is a Community Centre complete with swimming pool and theatre.

In the town there are two further Churches of Scotland and more than 30 other places of worship including all mainstream denominations.  The other Peterhead churches of Scotland are St. Andrew's Church, and Trinity Church (including Boddam Church).
