Outreach Mission Partners We strongly support the Mission work carried out in Ekwendeni, Malawi. One of our Elders has been in this part of Africa teaching technical subjects to those of suitable age. Fundraisers ensure a steady stream of foodstuffs, clothing, toiletries etc are sent out to Malawi. From the September 2008 magazine SOME NEWS FROM CROSSREACH… CHILDREN AND FAMILIES Within this area of our work, we deliver Services in partnership with children and their families. Through our vast experience, we have developed an intrinsic understanding that ‘family’ is highly important in the lives of young people and therefore aim to support them in enjoying a better quality of life, together with their family. Some of the ‘tools’ harnessed to facilitate this are: effective intervention programmes, enhanced learning experiences, enriched relationships, nurturing life skills, providing opportunities for personal development and fun! Other Service Provision offers respite and crisis care for children with learning and physical disabilities and families are encouraged to be fully involved in their child’s care, taking part in reviews and in the setting of goals. Where appropriate, parents and carers are encouraged to spend time with their children in our Services and at home. Sometimes, through disadvantage or disability, families struggle to cope and need help. Some of our children and young people become excluded form their family or community due to behavioural problems; some are contending with physical or mental disabilities. With our support, more families are able to stay together. Our vision of ‘Include Me In’ is delivered through Child Centred Services which value each child as a whole person and help them manage their relationships and their involvement within the community. Our Family Centred Services support parents in their role-rather than taking over their role. Services are delivered throughout Scotland from three campus areas in Stirlingshire, North Ayrshire and Glasgow. They include a range of community initiatives supporting children in their families and local schools, including classroom support when required. We support parents and carers in their own homes, helping them in their role and in coping with their own individual challenges. Our education services provides a continuum of education provision for pupils aged eight to eighteen and beyond. This includes vocational training on a residential and day-student basis leading to opportunities in Social Enterprise, where students can move to the world of work with the appropriate levels of support. (Work is also undertaken on behalf of the homeless, those with learning disabilities, with mental health issues, those who need counselling and support. Services are also provided for older people, people with problems relating to substance abuse, or who need help within the criminal justice system). Crossreach-The

Penny Project (from June 2008) magazine Once more we
have to thank you all for the support which you give this project. Great oaks
from little acorns grow they say and indeed this is true also with the pennies.
We still get the pennies, from so many of you and from lots of other folks who
have heard of our project, we are so grateful for every one of these small
coins. We do not want to mention any one in particular but we were very touched
when the Little Sunday school decided to continue to support us. A big thank you
to you all from both of us. Sena & Sam . P.S. You all know as
well as I do how the cost of everything is going up and up. Unfortunately this
has also affected the cost of tools. At the start of 2008 I could buy three sets
of chisels for £100 now in the third week of May I can only purchase two sets
for the same money. Your contributions to the penny project contribute very much
to the cost of these tools, and I thank you all so much for your support.
However may I take this opportunity to ask, if you have any old carpentry tools
(Chisels and planes) we will be able to use them for the workshop at the
training centre. So please have a look in the shed or the loft and give us a
ring. Once more a big thank you to every one who donates to the penny
project.... consider yourselves hugged, Yours aye Sam

Ekwendeni Awareness Day This day finally dawned on a bright sunny
day at the end of March 2008. The church and the hall had been set up by the Doing
Group, and here we must say that we would never have managed the day without the
DG especially in light of what was going on with Sam's health that weekend.
The team of ladies manning the kitchen upstairs was kept busy from 10AM
right through until four o'clock. May we take this opportunity to thank everyone
who contributed and baked for the teas and for the stall. The ladies manning the
stall were also kept busy throughout the day The displays in the church were
supervised and watched over by Kathleen. The whole day was a great success and
the weekend was finished off with a service on the Sunday morning when John
spoke about he work of the Raven trust . We finished off the weekend up at Macduff
where we also had a church service and then on the Monday we went to the boat
yard to see about the boat being built
to send out as a hospital boat to Ekwendeni. A great weekend where over a
thousand pound was raised for the Raven trust. 1st Kings chapter 17 at verse 6. We
thank you all again for all the help, support and the kindness shown that
weekend Yours
in faith Sam & Sena (June 2008)
Sam & Sena write (June 2006) 'Our third mile of pennies continues to grow and we thank you all for the continued support. However, we must just mention the wee ones from the little Sunday school and the Senior Ladies fellowship who support us so well and so diligently. As we go to press the total for this mile is £500.74p, it will be truly wonderful if we can make the mile by September.'
