Who says the choir of the Old Parish Church are not right bang up to date. Who would have thought that we would be here on a web page. Well there's always a first for everything. There has been a choir here in this church for a great many years, and as you see by the above photograph we are a happy lot. We the members of the choir, although some of us are not as we used to be, enjoy the singing of hymns both old and new. We would like to think that the choir will continue for a long time yet. This can only happen if new members come and join us. No matter how old or young you will be made most welcome. The Friday evening choir rehearsals are great fun. Some jokes, (well you need a laugh now and then) tea/coffee, (throats get dry quickly with laughter!) and a little bit of singing (that's all there's time for). We hope to bring our anthems to the Sunday morning service and are practising a new piece 'Praise, praise the Lord'. The choir are delighted to be on this web page, and if I can master the key-board and not make too many typing errors I'll be delighted too Magazine article (September 2008) There is
to be a replay of the concert the choir performed at Dun Church in Angus in
March. This will take place in the Church on Friday 3rd October at
7.15pm.The ticket price will be intimated nearer the time and will include
refreshments afterwards. We hope as many a possible will join us that evening
for what was dubbed a ‘beautiful programme.’ The
Choir are also to be performing a Christmas Musical. This will take place during
a diet of morning worship. WE NEED YOUR HELP. There are parts for all ages to
assist with the readings which are threaded through the musical. So whether you
are an elder, member of a committee, congregation or Sunday School, please come
forward and help us to make this a an extra special event. Those interested
please give your name to Adam or Ian them watch out for rehearsal dates as they
are intimated. Early
next year, we as a Church will be performing the well-known musical ‘JOSEPH’.
This venture will involve teenagers who may or may not already attend church. We
and to be inclusive, and this is a great opportunity to be so. If you can help
in any way please speak to Anna Florence, Elsie Hay, Elsie Johnstone or Adam
Horton, and watch out for the audition date which should be some time in
September. It is
hoped that we might start a hand-bell group or groups shortly. Anyone interested
in this should see Adam for further details. A word of caution though, there is
a vast difference in costs if purchasing in this country or from America (some
£750). There will have to be a fundraising effort which will begin with our
coffee morning that is intimated in the ‘dates for diaries’ for September, this
will include sales tables and a quiz sheet. We hope to have a quiz night early
next year, and we propose to set a cost of £10 per team. All proceeds will go
towards the purchase of our hand-bells. If you are unable to attend any of these
events and would like to help with a donation, then please see Adam or Anna. As the
choir is growing in number we are having to purchase some more robes and again
if your would like to help us by donating towards this extra but none the less
happy expense you are very welcome to do so. Thank
you all for your help and support in the past, I know we can continue to relay
on this support in the future.

Magazine article (June 2008) As I put these words on
paper I am reflecting on the extremely busy past few months and wonder how we
managed to get through them! It
certainly was not in our own strength. From early January until mid April we had been rehearsing for
the Daffodil Tea and our trip to Dun church, as well as preparing for the visit
of the Alexander Brothers. Our trip
to Dun went almost like clockwork, a little glitch as we were preparing to set
off did not mar the enjoyment and the fun we had driving down and coming home.
The programme went as planned, so much
so that later in the year a repeat performance will be given in our own church.
The highlight for some was the tea/coffee and cakes we consumed at the
Brechin garden centre. To transport
the 28 people who comprised the choir to and from Dun and feed them as well cost
a fair amount of cash. May I on
behalf of the choir thank most sincerely those who donated the necessary money
required to pay for this event. My thanks also to the choir who week by week
paid their subs. This money was
donated to the church at Dun to cover the cost of our high tea, and what a tea
it was too! WATCH FOR THE DATE OF
THIS EVENT IT IS NOT TO BE MISSED. We were also well
received by those present at the daffodil tea.
This again was a most enjoyable event.
The tea and eats went down well, so on behalf of the choir our thanks to
those who provided the refreshments. The visit of the
Alexander Brothers was in the main enjoyed by almost all who attended. The
playing of young pipers and drummers at the interval was wonderful, to see the
look on the faces of the audience as they watched and listened was truly
amazing. Again my thanks to those
young people they brought great delight to all those attending this event.
Keep it up! The money raised
on the evening came to £760.00.
This money will be put into a bank account and hopefully by November when the
money will be handed over as our part of the annual sale of work this amount
will have risen to £800. This was
certainly a worth while effort financially, however we will be digesting all the
comments etc received and plan our next events a little differently.
My only comment and this is only my personal view, the audience could
have been a little bigger, out of 800 possible seats available only 250 actually
were occupied. We will have to work
on that.
Our next planned event will be nearer the festive season, with our
annual carol service for the senior or more mature of the town. There will also be something new this year when the choir
will be putting on a Christmas service musical.
Watch out for the date of this plus more information regarding this. I have been asked that in
the first quarter of 2009 that the musical ‘JOSEPH AND HIS AMAZING TECHNICOLOUR
DREAM COAT’ be produced in the church.
Initial steps have been taken to comply with this request.
To date, a co-producer has been approached and has agreed to help, so a
start has been made. If you have
any comments or suggestions regarding this musical please do not hesitate to
pass these on to me as all ideas etc will be considered to make this a superb
event. Hopefully we will have a few
months of rest before the busy Christmas season starts.
But you never know! Thanks
again everybody who has assisted us so far this year, this is much appreciated.
Adam on behalf of the Choir.
