Girls Brigade
April
2009
The annual Buchan Division competition was held at
Longside Church Hall on Sunday 29th March.
This year’s competition involved the planning a meal for 6 to
celebrate the 30th anniversary of Buchan Division.
Each section was tasked with organising one part of the celebration:
Explorer sections made the invitations, Juniors designed placemats
and coasters for the table, Brigaders planned, costed and designed the menu
while officers were responsible for the table decoration.
All companies in the division took part on the day, except for 1st
Aith, Shetland who did, however, send down their completed invitations,
placemats and menus.
Each of the girls designed an entry for the competition
and Rev Pauline Thomson had the difficult job of choosing 6 designs from each
section. (Never an easy task and we
are grateful to Rev Thomson for getting involved.)
A girl from each section plus an officer then had to use the winning
Company designs to set the table on competition day.
Photos show Erin Banks accepting the trophy for the
Juniors, Chloe Brown for the Brigaders and Suzanne Brown being presented with
the trophy for the Officer’s table decoration.
Buchan Division is made up of 1st Ellon, 1st
and 2nd Fraserburgh, 1st Longside, 1st
Peterhead and 1st and 2nd Shetland companies and meetings
take place at Longside a few time a year.
Autumn 2008
The 1st Peterhead Girls Brigade recently celebrated
it's 25th anniversary. The company marked the occasion during its
Christmas party and a special birthday cake was cut by Olive McRobbie who,
along with Rev Dr David Ross, founded the local Girls Brigade company.
The 1st Peterhead Girls Brigade currently boasts 14 explorers, 14 juniors,
five Brigaders and six officers. It meets every Monday evening in the
Old Parish Church Hall from 6pm, and girls from Primary 1 upwards are
welcome to join the fun.
GIRLS’ BRIGADE Magazine article (June 2008)
This year’s Open Night
is set for 26th May and as usual at this time, we are getting ready
for that. The evening is a reflection of all that the girls have done
during the year and sums up much of what they have done each Monday night since
August last year. We have had
a busy year and are delighted to say that the Junior section won their part of
the challenges which were set for each section individually, as well as the
Company as a whole. Well done to
all of them; their challenges were to find out how many and what kind of pets
there are in the junior section, learn a new skipping game, count the books of
the New Testament and make puppets and do a short puppet show.
Overall winners were 1st Ellon.
The Buchan Division AGM was held at Longside on 11th
May when Reverend Pauline Thomson accepted the nomination to be chaplain of the
Division for the coming year. Dates
for forthcoming training days and divisional meetings were set at that meeting
and 1st Peterhead will be hosting the annual training day for
officers on Sunday 24th August.
To round off the year we are planning a trip to Willows
Animal Sanctuary on 8th June, after which Brigade stops until the
schools go back. All girls of
school age are welcome and we look forward to seeing faces old and new on 1st
September.
