Senior Ladies

An interdenominational group of some 100 ladies meet once a fortnight on a Monday afternoon. A varied syllabus engenders a lively ecumenical fellowship which is much appreciated. Two trips are arranged every  session, and once a year a concert is provided for and well-supported by the public of Peterhead. The latest innovation is an interdenominational Christmas Carol Praise in the Church.

With the season coming to a close the Spring Tea was held on April 9th. To this we were delighted to welcome our visiting Elders – Mr. Bob Buchan and Mr. Leslie Geekie.

The programme was in the hands of the Singing Group. A selection of Songs from the Black & White Minstrel Show was followed by `Down Memory Lane` when we returned to our childhood games- a `Little Boy`, suitably attired,   appeared with his Gird.  One brave lady gave a skipping display.   Balls appeared next all accompanied by long-forgotten songs. Readings followed and the first half ended with the whole company performing ¬The Red Yo-Yo each member displaying their skills. The second half started with a selection of Scottish Songs which was followed by a `tongue in cheek` version of the Prodigal Daughter.  Amelia  was the Director and she had a hard job keeping everyone in order.  The two final songs brought sanity to the Proceedings –‘Isn’t the Love of Jesus very wonderful ?’ and `Climbing up the Golden Stairs`. Mr. Buchan was very fulsome in his Vote of Thanks. They had had a wonderful afternoon and that seemed to be the popular opinion.

The final Meeting on April 23rd – The Sankey and Moody Story – was led by Mr. Raymond Mack. On the previous visit the pianist had been Mr. Tom Foubister who sadly had passed away. Mrs. Anna Mark willingly stepped into the breach.  We were transported back to 1874 when Sankey and Moody had visited Peterhead. On the Sunday 1200 people packed the Muckle Kirk and 5000 attended an afternoon Meeting on the Links. The hall rang with the ladies` voices singing many of the well-known hymns.

The ladies enjoyed an Outing to Montrose on 29th May.  Thus ended a very enjoyable session.   Thanks must be given to the President Mrs. Allen and her hard-working Committee.

The Autumn session starts on September 3rd with a `Welcome Back` Service in the Church conducted by Rev. Pauline Thomson. Thereafter the Syllabus is as follows:-
