The Choir

Who says the choir of the Old Parish Church are not right bang up to date.  Who would have thought that we would be here on a web page.  Well there's always a first for everything.

There has been a choir here in this church for a great many years, and as you see by the above photograph we are a happy lot.  We the members of the choir, although some of us are not as we used to be, enjoy the singing of hymns both old and new.  We would like to think that the choir will continue for a long time yet.  This can only happen if new members come and join us.  No matter how old or young you will be made most welcome.  The Friday evening choir rehearsals are great fun.  Some jokes, (well you need a laugh now and then) tea/coffee, (throats get dry quickly with laughter!) and a little bit of singing (that's all there's time for).

We hope to bring our anthems to the Sunday morning service and are practising  a new piece 'Praise, praise the Lord'.

The choir are delighted to be on this web page, and if I can master the key-board and not make too many typing errors I'll be delighted too

Magazine article (September 2007)

Here we are at the start of a new session, and with the first choir practice now behind us we are now into a very busy time.  As most of you will know at the end of last year we purchased some new anthem books part of the money for these books came from our coffee morning held last October.  We now need to raise some funds for the purchase of a few more books as our numbers have gone up a little.  We also need to replace the last of the wooden cupboards that hold our lovely, smart new robes.  These have been ordered and should arrive shortly.  To achieve this we are holding a buttery morning on Saturday 29th September from 10.00am – 12.00pm (£1.50 per person).  There will also be a sales table from which to purchase some interesting items.  During the morning you will get the opportunity to hear many of the songs contained in the new books as a tape will be playing softly in the background.  So come along a support us on this date.

There is also to be a Line Dance on Friday 26th October.  Entry to this is £5.00 payable at the door.  There will also be the usual raffles, and refreshments will be served during the evening.  Donations for the Buttery Morning can be handed in early on the day or to the church on the Friday evening prior to the event.  Donations for the Line Dance can be brought along on the evening or handed in before-hand.  Please see any of the following if you can support us in any way  – Mrs Elsie Hay, Miss Anna Florence or Mrs Sheila Buchan.

Last year we held a Sunday afternoon Christmas concert for the older people of the town.  The attendance was fairly good but let’s do better this year.  The invite goes out to all older townsfolk to come along on Sunday 9th December for a 2.30pm start for a Christmas Sing along

followed by refreshments.  This is a free event and all are welcome.  Residents of sheltered housing and nursing homes and any who require transport should contact Mrs Elsie Hay to arrange transport to and from the church.  Please give numbers of all those requiring transport so that adequate seating and wheelchair space is available.

We are all looking forward to seeing you there.
